The Bruininks-Oseretsky Test of Motor Proficiency, Second Edition (BOT-2) is an individually administered test that uses engaging, goal-directed activities to measure a wide array of motor skills in individuals aged 4 through 21. The new BOT-2 Brief Form was developed to address the need for a brief version of the BOT-2 that requires fewer manipulatives. The BOT-2 Brief Form contains 12 items, consisting of at least one item from each BOT-2 subtest. When a screening or program evaluation tool is required, the Brief Form can be used to determine the need for further assessment.
The Brief Form is quick and easy to administer and yields a single score of overall motor proficiency. Administering all 53 items on the comprehensive BOT-2 provides the most reliable measure of overall motor proficiency, enabling you to conduct a comprehensive investigation of an examinee’s strengths and weaknesses. This is the only version that should be used when qualifying an individual for services. Visit for more information. The minimum recommended interval for reassessment with the BOT-2 is 3 months or more. The test re-test data gathered during development of the BOT-2 show minimal mean differences with an average retest interval of 19-20 days, and average test score differences in the test-retest study are well below the SEms. The differences beyond 2-3 months are likely to represent developmental or skill gains, especially at lower age levels. It is very unlikely that practice effects would influence the BOT-2 scores, since it is a performance based test without a guessing component, and the items are not used for practice during the interval between tests.
How do I obtain the Fine Motor Composite Score, or the Gross Motor Composite Scores? In addition to the complete BOT-2 kit, the BOT-2 is also now available as separate Fine-Motor and Gross Motor Kits, with dedicated Fine-Motor and Gross-Motor forms. If you have a complete kit, and wish to obtain separate Fine-Motor and Gross Motor scores you will need the Manual Supplement for the BOT-2 Fine Motor Form and Gross Motor Form. This manual supplement is now included in the BOT-2 complete kit, but can also be purchased separately; see item 58046 ( Manual Supplement for the BOT-2 Fine Motor Form and Gross Motor Form) in the pricing and ordering section of the website.
